JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER
What a mild winter - and so different to the snow and ice of last year. The start of a new year in the Brecon Beacons offers up it's own particular delights. The waterfalls are often at their most spectacular, full and raucous after the rains of the last few months and, when we do get the snow, the mountains are truly beautiful. I always enjoy January as it is when I start feeding my small flock of Jacob sheep, building up the ewes for lambing in mid February. As the days slowly begin to lengthen we also wait with baited breath for the chickens to start laying again. Their eggs have been sorely missed over the dark days of winter and, although we always buy free range eggs, they never taste as good as ours! As I write this now the sun has finally come out, turning the bracken on the hills a deep russet colour - it's time to get out for a walk!
